Just in case anyone was wondering, Yes, the Town of Mamaroneck-Larchmont voted to pass the School Budget, Bond and voted on a Board of Trustees.

Talener telethon to support Mamaroneck-Larchmont school budget, bond and trustee vote today

Last night was a great night at Talener Group!  Our staff of 23 people volunteered their time from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and called roughly 2000 registered voters in the town of Mamaroneck-Larchmont to help raise awareness for a very important vote today, May 15th,  on the school budget, bond and board of trustees.  Talener Group worked closely with the PTA Council to draft a script, the PTA Council provided us the phone numbers and we took care of the rest.  We hope that the community gets out there today and votes!  That was the goal.

We had a lot of fun last night.  The bullpen was alive and the large conference room was packed with our Operations Staff and Patricia Dsupin banging the phones.  Everyone called at least 72 people.  We only managed to eat 4 of the 8 pizzas that we ordered from Little Italy, so it will be a Pizza Party at lunch today.

I would like to thank everyone at Talener Group and the PTA Council for helping to make last night a great success.

Congratulations to our April 2012 Candidate of the Month: Sean Wolfe!

Sean Wolfe, was found through the talent acquisition managers in our SF office. Coming out of Chicago Mercantile Exchange as an Automation Engineer, Sean is a brilliant guy who possesses exceptional communication skills and was an obvious hot candidate.  It was clear from our first interaction that we would be able to get him out to a number of opportunities due to the wide set of skills he amassed through his work at companies including Ticketfly and Ticketmaster.  Sean was also very skilled at articulating his knowledge succinctly.

Within one hour our Talener SF office was able to set up a phone interview with Expedia and schedule an onsite the following day which resulted in a offer the same day.

Our client, Expedia, one of the largest travel sites in the world, had been looking for someone like Sean for quite some time.

Sean is also a very talented Tango dancer.  He lived in Argentina for a year to pursue his passion for tango dancing. He is also a avid pickup basketball player

We wish Sean the best, and are enthusiastic about the growth potential with Expedia in the near future.

Talener CEO Mike Dsupin spoke to JobWeeks/Content That Works About How to Resign Gracefully

Talener CEO Mike Dsupin spoke to writer Dawn Klingensmith (JobWeeks/Content That Works) regarding how to resign gracefully.

Among Mike’s most insightful advice:

“Tell your boss before anyone else. “It’s embarrassing if you’re the boss and you hear from someone else that your employee is leaving,” says Michael Dsupin, CEO of Talener, an information technology staffing company with offices in New York City, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Have a concise resignation letter prepared in advance with your last date of employment and contact information for future correspondence. “We always stress that it’s not important why you’re leaving,” Dsupin says. “If asked why, just say you feel like it’s time to make a move and try something new.””

Talener Group, LLC supports the “Get Out and Vote!” efforts of Murray Avenue School PTA and the Mamaroneck-Larchmont Council of PTAs (“PT Council”) for the Mamaroneck School District’s Budget and Bond Proposals

Talener Group, LLC, through their continuing efforts to support the communities in which their employees live and work, will offer the skills and facilities of their New York staff and office to support the PTA’s efforts in Larchmont and Mamaroneck to increase awareness about the upcoming vote.   According to Liz Paras, President of Murray PTA, “Our objective as a PTA is to get the word out that people should vote; we are not telling people how to vote.”

Using a script provided by the PT Council Budget Communications team, on Monday night, May 14, 2012 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm (the night before voting begins), Talener will have its NYC staff of 23+ place calls to registered voters in the Mamaroneck School District, reminding them to get out and vote the next day at their local elementary schools.

Talener has been looking for a way to give back to communities and support causes that are important to the Talener Family beyond just writing a check.  Putting our trained professional sales staff and our corporate operations staff to work to support this initiative is a fantastic initial step.  Social responsibility and community involvement are important values of Talener Group and our employees and we are happy to be able to support this “Get Out and Vote!” initiative for the Mamaroneck-Larchmont PT Council and the Murray School PTA!

Congratulations to our March 2012 Candidate of the Month: Amadeus Junqueira

Amadeus Junqueira, an Emerson alum , was found through our talent acquisition manager Tim Olesnavage.  Coming out of AHALife as an UI Engineer, Amadeus is a sharp guy who possesses exceptional communication skills and was an obvious hot candidate.  It was clear from our first interaction that we would be able to get him out to a number of opportunities due to the wide set of skills he amassed through his work at companies including AHALife and BuyWithMe.com (acquired by Gilt).  Amadeus was also very skilled at articulating his knowledge succinctly.

Within a weeks’ time Talener was generating a lot of activity for him with 6 of our clients which resulted in a number of options for him (3-4 companies either made him an offer or wanted to make him an offer).

Our client, Learnvest, a well-known NYC based start-up company, had been looking for someone like Amadeus for quite some time.  In desperate need of a very strong UI Engineer, Learnvest knew they needed someone who was a culture fit as well.  It was vital this person had a passion for technology and a start-up mentality. Learnvest was so excited about Amadeus’ background that

Around the time Amadeus was supposed to have his first interview with Learnvest, they were so sure Amadeus was worth pursuing that the entire tech team met with him in Austin at SXSW where they happened to be in town at the same time.  Both parties knew it was a perfect fit.  The company immediately offered Amadeus an opportunity to join their impressive team.  He was hired as a Senior Software Developer and is very excited to start with them in April.

We wish Amadeus the best, and are enthusiastic about the growth potential of Learnvest in the near future.

FOX Business’ Kathryn Tuggle asks Talener CEO Mike Dsupin about “..Tricky – and Illegal – Interview questions”

In an article that posted to FOX Business today, writer Kathryn Tuggle explored “How to Answer Tricky – and Illegal – Interview Questions” and she asked Talener CEO Mike Dsupin for his input.

Mike acknowledged that it can be difficult for non HR hiring managers to realize when a conversation may turn from trying to find a common ground into potentially illegal territory.  Mike said “Interviewers are looking for a person’s ability to shift gears and how they handle tricky questions. An interview is about finding common ground with someone and that’s a good thing. But lines get crossed, and if you’re looking for a job you have to be prepared for certain things.”

The main thing to remember is that whatever happens with your interview and whatever questions you may get asked:  Know yourself, know your resume and be ready to answer everything that comes your way honestly.

What are your thoughts and experiences with interviewing or being interviewed?  Let us know in the comments or tweet @TalenerGroup

Congratulations to our February 2012 Candidate of the Month: Noyda Matos!

We know it’s a little belated, but there have been a lot of exciting things going on here at Talener and rather than skip it all together, we decided it was better to announce it late than never.  Read on to learn more about February’s candidate of the month!

Our New York based Manager of Talent Acquisition, Tim Olesnavage reached out to our February 2012 candidate of the month, Noyda Matos, over a period of more than two weeks and even though she’d been beaten up by phone calls from recruiters, she apparently decided to call us back because Tim was very specific about the jobs and clients he wanted to discuss with her.

Noyda had been a lead developer with Kaplan and was interested in working on a variety of products and working with some new technologies.  Noyda impressed our relationship managers with her ability to communicate with on a technical level and with business users.

Henry Boulos, the Director of our NY office got her out to a manager we were working with at CNN and after a fairly exhaustive process that included 3 onsite interviews and a couple of Skype interviews with Turner corporate in Atlanta, they offered Noyda the job with a substantial raise.

After that Noyda referred a friend to Talener and we quickly placed that friend at Pearson.

We wish Noyda the best at CNN and we’re glad we had an opportunity to help both her and her friend find new roles!
