New York City – Hands On Development Manager – $180K
Our client is an e-learning company that provides software services to educational institutions. The products they provide allow educators to plan and manage their lesson plans, and to foster educational achievement. Our client is a rapidly growing business, headquartered in Manhattan. Reporting to the CTO, this key leadership role is responsible for delivering software releases, and helping define the vision, definition and strategy for the development team. It is a heavily hands-on management role, albeit light with regards to any actual programming.
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
• Strong SQL experience/skills.
• Expert level experience in computer programming using the MVC framework.
• Minimum of 3 years of management/ leadership experience in a software development organization required.
• Must have at least 2 years’ experience working through the design, development, release cycle delivering software to market.
• Large/ enterprise application development experience preferred.
• Experience solving complex and large-scale software problems.
• Strong understanding of the software development cycle.
• Strong leadership, project management skills, time management, and problem solving skills.
• A record successful delivery of software systems as an individual, team leader and or/ development manager.
• Possesses the highest level collaborative skills to coordinate and facilitate activities within and between departments.
• An entrepreneurial spirit with strong product and program management skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Project management experience desired.
Job Responsibilities:
• Works together with team leads to plan and execute projects
• Act as a gateway through which work should be assigned to appropriate teams
• Provides leadership and guidance. Coach, motivate, and lead team members
• Orchestrates the deployment of software enhancements and fixes as required.
• Insures that code reviews occur, that coding standards are adhered to, and code quality is maintained.
• Is instrumental in providing input for assessing and selecting appropriate development methodologies and tools.
• Proactively reviews work, assesses quality, provides direction where needed; reprimands when needed.
• Serves as the technical lead.
• Deploys code to production environments as necessary.
• Supports production issues when required; delegating when necessary.
• Tracks and approves vacation and personal days for employees within their teams and monitoring individual employees’ performance and relays this to upper management.
